Take the Orca Challenge!

Dear Awesome SW Elementary School Orcas –
I miss you all and hope you and your family are doing well! I think of you every day and of all
the fun times we have had at school – and all the fun times we will have together again!
I am writing to ask you to participate in the “Orca Challenge” with me! What is the Orca
Challenge? It’s a way for us to show our love and support for ALL of the people in our
community who need some extra love and support! Choose just one of the challenges - or all
four! So – here’s what I want to ask you to do:
Orca Challenge #1: Create a piece of art that has a positive message for people in our
community who are the helpers – our nurses, grocery store workers, police officers – or any of
the many helpers in our community!
Orca Challenge #2: Make a card for one of the elders in our community who may be alone and
sad at this time. Tell them you are thinking of them and draw a picture on the card for them!
Orca Challenge #3: Do something EXTRA NICE for someone in your family – sweep the floor
so someone else doesn’t have to, do something nice for your brother or sister – anything that
would make someone in your family SMILE!
Orca Challenge #4: Share a picture of how you are helping our earth during Earth Week!
HOW TO SEND IT:
● If you hand draw or paint your piece of art, ask your family to help you mail it to me at:
Mrs. Richards, PO Box 362, Freeland, WA 98249
● OR you can ask them to help you scan it and e-mail it to me and I will print it!
● OR – if you want to make your piece of art on the computer, you can save it, attach it to
an e-mail to me: srichards@sw.wednet.edu
I will send out your art and cards to the helpers and our elders and publish them (and your
earth day photos!) on our website – you will make our community VERY happy! I will be saving
whales tales for everyone who participates in one of this week’s challenges – so you’ll be

entered as a spinner winner and we’ll have a virtual assembly in May! I can’t wait to see what
you create and what you will do to make your family smile!
I LOVE YOU ALL!!! Look for more Orca Challenges to come! Mrs. Richards
